Talks Urgently Needed to Resolve Damaging Industrial Action

Chambers Ireland today (31 March 2017) called on management at Bus Eireann and the Unions to utilise the industrial relations machinery of the State to resolve the current industrial dispute and restore transport services for the public who rely on them.

Commenting on the ongoing strike by Bus Eireann drivers, Ian Talbot Chief Executive of Chambers Ireland said, “The current industrial action is having an unquantifiable impact on business across Ireland and is particularly disruptive and damaging to small business and retailers. We are now in the eighth day without bus services that are a vital lifeline for both workers and customers in every town and village across Ireland. It is time for Bus Eireann management and the Unions involved to use the industrial relations machinery of the State to resolve the current situation. Realistic engagement on the future sustainability of the network is also required.

Lack of public transport provision disproportionately and unfairly impacts the most vulnerable in our society. The business community also needs certainty to ensure that customers and staff can make travel plans. It is essential that services are restored as soon as possible to protect those who rely on them.”
