Ballina St Patricks Day Parade Cancelled.
With news just breaking that the Cabinet Sub-Committee dealing with the Coronavirus has decided to cancel the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, many parades around the country has followed suit and cancelled thier parades also, including Ballina.
It follows an announcement from Cork City Council to cancel their parade and Sligo.
Brian Hopkins, Chairman of Ballina’s St Patricks Day Parade 2020 states
“Ballina Chamber of Commerce’s top priority is the health and safety of all our members, and the citizens of our town and community and with that in mind and with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel this year’s St Patricks Day Parade as we consider the collective welfare of Ballina and North Mayo.
This is a great shame and huge disappointment for us, as it was the Chambers first year of managing and organising Ballina’s St Patricks Day Parade. The previous committee had stepped down after giving twenty years’ service to the community, ensuring Ballina always had a great St Patricks Day Parade, and we thank them for their commitment to this great community event.”
We thank all those businesses, sporting clubs, community groups, schools and volunteers who had entered into this years parade with great gusto and assure them that the parade will be back in 2021.”
