The Road to Downpatrick; Notes from Ballyglass, Ballycastle.
I was present at the launch of Donal McCormick’s wonderful book “ The Road to Downpatrick ” which took place at Lackan Enterprise Centre on Saturday April 2nd. The event was attended by a large group and hosted by the McCormick family who put on a very generous evening of hospitality, enjoyed by all.
Stewart McCormick introduced world famous archaeologist Professor Seamus Caulfield who gave an eloquent and amusing background and description of the book and introduced the star of the evening, Donal McCormick, who generously thanked all those who had helped with production of his book.
The Road to Downpatrick is an outstanding book with many folklore stories and beautiful photos of the area and is a must read for those who visit this area of outstanding beauty, steeped in history dating back 6,000 years.
400 copies were sold on the night and Mayo Co Council, who supported the publication, have taken 500 copies for distribution at international trade fairs.
In closing, Donal encouraged locals to continue to work together to enhance and improve the area.
